DATA (Design and Technology Association)
DATA is a professional association for Design and Technology teachers. They provide up to date information regarding the subject and have a bank of resources both free and to purchase. DATA also delivers courses, including Health and Safety qualifications relevant to teaching the subject.
DATA have teaching resources covering all elements of the DT curriculum with effective tried and tested projects. Some of these are free and some available to buy. There is also guidance on key aspects such as assessment in DT. Most resources are free to members; find out if the DT department at your school has a corporate membership.
DATA provides up to date developments in the subject that would be useful for ECTs.
The Design and Technology Association (DATA) is beneficial to all DT teachers providing advice, support and training. The wide range of resources include a bank of materials to use in the classroom; DT Challenges; a video platform; numerous blogs and guidance on assessment. They also produce a quarterly DT Magazine featuring the latest developments in the subject and showcasing good practice. DATA deliver a wide range of CPD but specifically endorsed Health and Safety training. In addition, they award the Design and Technology Mark to schools providing excellent teaching and learning in Design and Technology as well as D&T Excellence Awards to teachers.
Food Teachers Centre
The Food Teachers Centre is a forum with over 5000 active food teachers and is an invaluable support for sharing good practice as well as finding creative and innovative ideas. You can also join a closed Facebook group and share ideas and discuss issues with other food teachers. The centre also offers a wide range of Food training courses.
Food Teachers post a wealth of teaching resources on the Food Teachers closed Facebook and these are all free.

The Food Teachers Facebook is a platform to seek support and discuss relevant Food issues with other practitioners.
Joining the Food Teachers Centre is a must for Food specialists. The closed Facebook covers all topics such as current healthy eating, food related issues and teaching across all key stages. There is access to a wide range of resources and the support of Food specialists with a wealth of experience. You can also share your own resources. Both online and face to face courses are offered with the opportunity to network with other Food teachers. Many of these are twilight or weekend, alleviating the need for time out of the classroom.
The Food Teachers Centre has been invaluable in my teaching, particularly with the GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition NEA1 and NEA2. They offer courses with the opportunity to network with other Food teachers and share resources. The Facebook group allows discussions on up to date issues and offers reassurance. I encourage all ECTs to join, as there is a wealth of resources ready for you to incorporate into your teaching.
